Snowcarbon is an independent website dedicated to helping skiers and snowboarders travel to ski resorts by train in the Alps from the UK.
In 2022 Founder Daniel Elkan invited me to uplift the design and experience of the site so that it could better service the skying community.
The current design had been built out of several different styles and lacked a consist visual theme. It ultimately didn’t reflect the level of knowledge contained within and this was compromising its integrity.

Within the discovery phase of the project, it soon became clear the Snowcarbon team had access to an astonishing archive of photography, this would become the bedrock of our design direction.

Telling an authentic story was also important to the Founders ambitions, unfiltered photography and real stories would be the mainstay.
The design direction leaned into the notion of a journal that would provide people the opportunity share their train travel and skiing experiences.

Making it easy for enthusiastic skiers to access the vast amount of information on the site was a priority.
The website homepage acts as an easily navigable portal to guides, train timetables and accommodation.
To provide context reader experiences add a human touch and are interwoven throughout.

Alongside the website, I have collaborated with Snowcarbon to design a number of press releases for France Montagnes and Austria Tourism to promote the virtues of train travel.

For the Austrian Press release, sweeping vistas and a minimal typography aesthetic support a pro train/slow travel narrative.

Packed with useful information including Rail-Ski maps, overnight schedules, stop-over advice, transfer options alongside showcasing the onboard experience during your journey to your destination.

An ongoing body of work, free to access by everyone that provides advice how to enhance the experience of train travel in Europe.
